Side harbour sits at the very tip of the old-town peninsula, and the last stretch is car-free — so the real question is never “how far” but “where does my ride actually stop.” Almost every first-timer expects to be dropped right at the boats. You won’t be. The old town is a compact, pedestrian core about a kilometre long, and vehicles are held at the entrance gate. Here is how locals get down to the water without stress.
The noddy-train shuttle (easiest for most people)
A small open “noddy train” runs between the old-town entrance area and the harbour end, threading the pedestrian streets that cars cannot use. The ride is short — roughly ten minutes end to end, longer if it’s crowded — and it drops you close to the harbourfront where the tour boats moor. It’s the friendliest option if you have tired legs, a stroller, or beach bags. In peak season it runs frequently through the day; you simply hop on where you see it loading near the gate.
By taxi — where they really stop
Taxis do not enter the pedestrian core. They stop at the old-town entrance, and from there it’s a flat, easy walk (or the noddy train) down the main street to the harbour. Tell your driver “Side antik kent girişi” (the ancient-city entrance). Don’t let anyone promise to drive you “all the way to the boats” — physically they can’t, and the walk is genuinely short and pleasant.
On foot down the main street
Walking is half the pleasure here. From the entrance gate you follow the main street straight through the old town — shops, cafes, and columns — and it gently funnels you toward the sea. Because Side sits on a peninsula only about 400 m across, you can’t really get lost: keep heading down and the water appears. The Temple of Apollo stands right beside the harbour waterfront, so those five famous columns are your landmark — when you see them, you’ve arrived.
Coming from a resort (Sorgun, Kumköy, Titreyengöl, Çolaklı)
Most hotel zones sit only a few kilometres out. Sorgun and Kumköy are the closest at roughly 3–5 km; Titreyengöl and Çolaklı are a touch further at about 7–10 km — all comfortably under twenty minutes by road. Local dolmuş minibuses and taxis run these routes constantly in season. If your trip is a river cruise rather than a coastal one, note that river boats depart from piers on the lower Manavgat River, not the old-town harbour — so hotel pickup is standard and you may not go through the old town at all. Always check which departure point your specific tour uses.
Timing your arrival
Give yourself a buffer. If your coastal boat leaves at, say, 11:00, aim to be at the entrance gate by 10:30. That covers the walk or the wait for the noddy train, plus finding the right jetty among the moored boats. Mornings are cooler and the harbour is calmer; by midday the pedestrian street fills with day-trippers and everything moves a little slower. Arriving early also means you get first pick of the shaded seats on deck.
What the walk is like
It’s flat, paved, and scenic — no steep hills, no rough ground. Strollers and wheelie bags are fine on the main street, though some side lanes are cobbled. There’s shade from awnings and plenty of spots to pause for a cold drink. By the time you reach the harbour you’ll have walked past two thousand years of history, which is a rather good way to start a day on the water.
If you’re still unsure where your particular boat leaves from, our guide on which bays Side boats visit and the Manavgat river cruise explained both spell out the two very different departure points.

FAQ
Can a taxi drop me right at the boats in Side?
No. Vehicles are held at the old-town entrance gate because the harbour core is pedestrian-only. Taxis stop there, and you finish the short trip on foot or by the noddy-train shuttle. The remaining walk down the main street is flat and takes only a few minutes.
How long does the noddy train take to the harbour?
Roughly ten minutes end to end, sometimes a little more when the pedestrian streets are busy in peak season. It loads near the old-town entrance and drops you close to the harbourfront where the excursion boats moor, which makes it ideal with children or bags.
Do river cruises leave from Side harbour too?
No. Coastal trips leave from the old-town harbour, but Manavgat river cruises depart from piers on the lower river. For those, operators arrange hotel pickup as standard, so you may never pass through the old town. Always confirm your departure point when you book.
How early should I arrive at the harbour?
Aim to reach the entrance gate about thirty minutes before departure. That gives you time for the walk or noddy train, plus a moment to locate the correct jetty among the moored boats. Arriving early also wins you the shaded deck seats before the midday crowd builds.
