“Which bays will we actually visit?” is the fairest question you can ask a Side boat operator — and the honest answer is: it depends on the trip type, the sea that day, and the season. Rather than promise a fixed postcard list, we’d rather show you how routes really work here, so you can read any tour honestly and ask us for our current route before you book. Side has two very different kinds of boat day, and they visit completely different water.
Coastal boat days from the old-town harbour
These leave from the harbour at the tip of the old town, right beside the Temple of Apollo. A coastal day cruises along the Side shoreline and anchors at a few swim stops in calmer bays where the water is clear and the seabed is bright enough to snorkel. You’ll get views of the ancient city and its Athena and Apollo temples from the sea — a perspective you simply can’t get on foot. The exact swim coves shift with wind and swell: a captain will pick sheltered water on a breezy day, so the map is guided by conditions, not by a rigid script.
Manavgat river days
A river day is a different animal. These depart from piers on the lower Manavgat River (hotel pickup is standard), cruise the calm, spring-fed river, and anchor near the river mouth where the Manavgat meets the Mediterranean for a swim stop — so you get cold river and warm sea in one afternoon. Lunch is usually served on board. Depending on the day, the trip adds either the waterfall land stop or the Manavgat bazaar. No coastal bays here — it’s a river-and-river-mouth route.
Why we won’t promise a rigid list
Any operator who guarantees the exact same coves every single day is either lucky with the weather or not being straight with you. Safe, comfortable boating means reading the sea: on a calm morning you might reach further stops; on a choppy one the captain hugs sheltered water. That flexibility is a feature, not a dodge — it’s how you avoid a rough, seasick afternoon. What we can promise is transparency about the day’s plan.
How to check our current route
Before you book, ask three simple things: Is this a coastal or a river trip? How many swim stops, roughly, and how long at each? And what’s today’s planned route given the forecast? A good operator answers all three without hesitation. We’ll tell you the day’s intended stops and be upfront if wind is likely to change them. That’s the “current route” framing — a plan you can trust, not a promise the sea might break.
What the water is like
The sea off Side is swimmable roughly May to October, around 24°C in June and peaking near 27–29°C in high summer. Bays used for swim stops are chosen for calm and clarity, ideal for a float and a snorkel. The river runs notably colder year-round because it’s spring and karst fed — bracing and refreshing on a hot day, which is exactly the appeal of that river-mouth swim.
Choosing your day
Want temple views, snorkelling and open sea? Take a coastal day from the harbour. Want calm water, greenery, a cold-river swim and lunch on deck? Take a river day. Both are Side classics; they just visit different water. Tell us which mood you’re after and we’ll match you to the right route.

FAQ
Do Side boat trips visit the same bays every day?
Not exactly. Captains choose swim stops based on the wind and swell that day, favouring sheltered, clear water. On calm days you may reach further coves; on breezy days the route stays closer to shelter. This flexibility keeps the trip comfortable and reduces seasickness, so treat any rigid daily guarantee with caution.
Can I see Side's ancient temples from the boat?
Yes, on a coastal trip. Boats leaving the old-town harbour cruise past the peninsula and give you sea views of the ancient city and its Athena and Apollo temples — a vantage you cannot get on land. It is one of the highlights of a coastal day, distinct from the river cruise, which stays on the river.
What's the difference in route between a sea trip and a river trip?
A coastal sea trip cruises the Side shoreline with swim stops in bays and temple views. A river trip cruises the calm lower Manavgat and anchors at the river mouth for a swim, usually with lunch aboard and either a waterfall land stop or the bazaar. They visit completely different water, so pick by the experience you want.
How do I check the exact route before booking?
Ask three questions: is it coastal or river, how many swim stops and for how long, and what is today's planned route given the forecast. A transparent operator answers all three and flags if wind may change the stops. That way you book a realistic plan rather than a promise the sea might override.
